Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Collections Closure

- OVERVIEW
- The purpose of this policy is to provide staff and members of the public a working knowledge of cases involving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or concurrent SSI and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
- APPLICABILITY
- This policy applies to all Arizona IV-D program staff performing Title IV-D services.
- POLICY
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SSI/SSDI concurrent or SSI/SSR concurrent shall not be collected for support. When income from SSI, SSI/SSDI concurrent or SSI/SSR concurrent is inadvertently collected through enforcement activity, funds must be returned within 5 business days from the date the DCSS confirms the source of the collection.
- CRITERIA
- In order to be eligible for a review for SSI, SSI/SSDI concurrent or SSI/SSR concurrent case closure, the IV-D case must meet a least one of the following criteria:
- The noncustodial parent (NCP) has a medically verified total and permanent disability and receives SSI/SSDI concurrently as his/her sole income.
- The NCP receives SSI as his/her sole income, strictly based on financial need.
If either of these criteria are met, a case may be reviewed for the 938 – NCP SOLE INCOME SSI OR SSDI/SSI CONCURRENT OR SSI/SSR CONCURRENT closure.
- PROCEDURE
- This policy is supported by staff procedures, which identify how action related to this policy will be conducted, including responsibilities, time frames, and required actions.
